Conan O’brien – tonight show

January 13th, 2010 by Febe received 1 Comment »

I have been a loyal Conan fan since the first episode. I remember one of the first skits I saw. The sketch was about trying out different directors for the opening credits for late night. The funniest credits was just shots of Conan’s, Andy’s feet and a heavy emphasis on Max’s feet. From that point on I was hooked. I was a tween them and literally grew up with Conan. I was most dedicated during my college years. I was sad when he left New York for L.A. and the tonight show. However, I knew it was what Conan deserved and worked so hard for. I was especially torn because he would no longer be a best kept secret at midnight. He was going mainstream. But the masturbating bear would have to stay in New York. I do miss that horny mammal.

Then the news hit that crybaby Jay Leno didn’t want to retire and would get a 9pm(central) show. I mean the guy has how many cars? He was on the tonight show for how long? Don’t even get me started on HOW he got that gig..Let’s just say Leno has a talent for breaking promises and backstabbing.

I could almost not be so upset if he was even MILDLY funny. Alas, this not the case. I tried over and over to watch him on the Tonight Show. He was boring, stale, and just generally annoying. His bits were bad, uncreative, and tired. He agreed to retire and move on and let Conan take over. Contracts were signed!!

I knew his new show would fail. It was basically the tonight show but without the name. Conan never had a fighting chance. Then the inevitable news came that Jay was getting cancelled and getting moved back to 10:35pm(central) and Conan was being pushed back thirty minutes. Seven months!! Jay floundered for over a year before he got some retooling. Conan is the type of host people need to warm up too. Seven months is not enough.

Then just this week Conan made a public statement declaring he would not be accepting the later time slot. Good for him!! NBC is basically breaking their contract with him. I’m really excited to see where he will end up. Secretly, I’m hoping that he gets some sort of comedy sketch show on comedy central haha. But I really don’t see that happening.

Where ever Conan ends up, I’ll follow. He has been my favorite talk show host ever, and one of the cutest. I generally loathe watching celebrities hawk their movie on talk shows but Conan’s interviews are so funny and great. Celebrities always seem more comfortable on his show and participate more.

A farewell song to Conan!

and here’s some of the best sketches from his late night era. If only he was given time to grow; the unfulfilled awesomeness that we will never get to see, saddens my heart. His South Pacific TV movie sketch at the end is made of so much win.

  1. lol a handful of of the feedback folks distribute are such stoner remarks, at times i contemplate whether they truly read the information and reports before leaving your 2 cents or whether or not they just simply read the title of the blog post and pen the first thought that one thinks of. anyway, it is pleasing to read through intelligent commentary occasionally instead of the exact same, old oppinion vomit which i typically see on the net
